Things are not always the same!

I have been developing STC’s for aircraft since 1986. I know! That seems like a long time to me to. What I discovered is that airplanes are all customized and what you find on one airplane won’t be on another.

Just yesterday, I had a customer that had purchased a set of copper cables for a Bellanca 14-19-3A Viking. The mechanic said our cables didn’t fit. The battery was under the copilot seat. I always thought that the battery was going to be behind the baggage compartment. A call to the factory was made and the rep agreed. He had never seen the battery under the copilot seat.

Digging a bit farther, we discovered that for a few airplanes, having the battery under the copilot seat was a factory option. If you work on airplanes, situations like this will come up. We as mechanics need to be able to roll with the punches.

The owner of the airplane is thinking about moving the battery to space behind the baggage compartment while he is installing an autopilot system in the plane. Whatever they decide to do, Bogert Aviation will be there to support that effort.
